Zeroing in on the major issues affecting the franchising industry, nearly four dozen franchise executives gathered in Phoenix recently during IFA’s annual “invitation only” Executive Leadership Conference to gain insights on how to steer their firms through the challenges posed by today’s uncertain economy.
Keynote speaker Leslie Stahl, co-editor of CBS-TVs long-running news program 60 Minutes shared her view of the public’s perception of rapidly-changing communications trends. Special guest speaker Marilyn Carlson Nelson, chairman and CEO of Carlson Companies, offered guidance on leadership tips and tactics gained through her role as head of a global group of integrated companies that provide travel, hotel, restaurant and marketing services.
Renowned management consultant and author Ram Charan returned to deliver his thought-provoking vision that the highly-acclaimed business advisor, speaker and business coach has developed over more than three decades of working with companies ranging from GE to DuPont to Verizon.
Noting that signs of the recession’s end are emerging, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Chief Economist Marty Regalia, gave attendees lots to consider as they pondered ways to get a jump on competitors in the slowly-improving economy. His advice aligned with IFA’s Strategic Plan, which depends heavily on grassroots lobbying by these leaders and association member companies. IFA President and CEO Matthew Shay updated the group on the Strategic Plan and its implementation timeline.
Rounding out the Conference were breakout sessions. Roark Capital Group Vice President Geoff Hill led a discussion of ways to improve sales in a recovering economy and TSS Photography President Joe Lindenmayer directed a gathering of those interested in reviewing best practices in franchise relations.
Social-media networking strategist and author David Nour capped the event with a fast-faced and uplifting look of important steps businesses must take in today’s new technology universe to reach customers and inspire employees.
Conducted annually at Phoenix’s Royal Palms Resort & Spa, the Executive Leadership Conference is designed as three days of intensive information-sharing, networking and strategic thinking led by experts in fields crucial to franchise operations. Watch IFA’s publications, e-mails and Web site for details and registration information for next year’s “invitation only” Conference scheduled October 13-15, 2010.
